Sunshine and circuits

Sunday, February 4th, 2007 at 12:48 pm / posted by Tom

Another cracking day yesterday meant for another good ride. We had our usually saturday morning circuit training session with Nick Miles of UrbanFit which went very well and then headed out into the sunshine for a solid ride over to Lewes and back. A shade under 26 miles and at a good rate, average speed 13.6mph… pleased to break into the thirteens for average speed.

Lewes: 25.6 miles. 1 hour 56 mins. average speed 13.6mph

Great game too!!! good to see Wilko back on the pitch after however long it’s been.. and a nice start for the boys in white.. bring on the Italians!!!

Dr. Richard Simcock and Co

Tom and I were lucky enough to be invited to the Sussex Cancer Centre last night to be shown where exactly the money we raise will be spent. It was quite incredible to witness the process through which every patient’s case is passed. The current facilities available, which were essentially donated using lottery money from the government are astounding, but they can do more…. We were shown exactly the way in which IMRT works successfully in avoiding crucial body parts to reach solely the disease which is being irradicated. AMAZING STUFF!!

Do try and join us on the Thursday 29th March at the Wingrove House, Alfriston, East Sussex, where Dr. Simcock will be giving a talk.

Cheerio for now!

Back on track…

Sunday, February 18th, 2007 at 6:48 pm / posted by Tom

Well… since the last post quite a bit has been happening

My bike has been in for a service (thanks Adam, Kontour Cycles) and also needed to have it’s rear wheel straightened as it buckled slightly last Sunday when i got a flat 20 miles into my ride.. at which time i noticed i had forgotten my pump!! so i had to get picked up and driven home.. shame on me for such a bad error!! Foolish. On a brighter note the sun was shining again for the ride ;-)

Last night we attended the launch party of Back on Track Chiropractic based in Uckfield and set up and run by Dr Amanda Aston. Amanda is a keen tri-athlete and has very kindly offered to help us with all things chiropractic. I had my initial examination today and am eagerly awaiting the results.. a new spine!

We have also starting the organising of our awareness evening which will be held at the Wingrove House, Alfriston on March the 29th. Invites will be sent out soon and we’d love to see you there if you can make it.

Sickness and pleasure

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007 at 5:08 pm / posted by Hels

Since last I wrote I have annoyingly caught a virus which has rendered me pretty useless for the last ten days…..training has had to take a backseat since it induces a migraine - excellent!

On a lighter note I’m away to Africa for a month tomorrow, so my training will take on something of a different style; less Millsy’s wheels of steel at my heel, more the soft padding of lions paws to get me moving more quickly…and if that’s doesn’t improve my endurance then nothing else will.

I’ve six weeks when I get back which, Nick has assured me, with a strict regime once again, will be enough to see me right for our d-day in May.

Thanks to everyone who has kindly donated so far, without these donations our doing this event would be pointless.  Thank you so much.

Thank you very kindly to everybody who has made a donation in the past few weeks.. we really appreciate what you are giving and it’s all helping to get our total to that £30,000 target.

Cycling

Put in a quick sprint ride this morning lasting an hour. Managed 15.8miles which obviously is 15.8mph average speed. That’s what we like to see. Off to circuit training with Nick Miles, UrbanFit, tomorrow morning before doing a big ride… aiming for 50 to 60 miles…. ;-)

More cycling more donations…

Once again we cannot thank you enough for all the fantastic donations that have been coming in.. and all the letters and phones calls of encouragement.. Love to you all ;-)

Been on a few little rides since last weekend. Went out on Thursday with Mandy Aston (Back on Track Chiropractic) who is in training for the new Triathlon Season and is also helping us with everything Chiropractic. We did a little 1hr 40mins ride covering about 25miles in some glorious sunshine (seems to be becoming a regular feature of our rides!!). Have just got back from a small 1hr ride this morning which covered 14.7 miles. Tomorrow we’re off out with the Lewes Wanderers for a mornings ride. It will interesting to see how the big boys do it!! Have also put in some research for cycling jokes to help me fit in more seamlessly with the group!! ;-) Luv it

Keep it coming!!

Went out with the Lewes Wanderers on Sunday which, although i feel we were a little off the pace, was a great experience. The guys were excellent at looking after the newbees and showed a lot of patience. Covered a total of 47.9miles over 3hrs 39mins averaging around 13.12mph. Oh and the sun was out again!!! Gotta luv that!

Hope you have had a good weekend.. thanks again for the donations that are coming in..
