Inspiration behind the challenge"In one way or another, cancer will probably affect all of us at some point in our lives. We may have the disease ourselves or see close friends or family suffer. I have been coping with cancer for the last four years and am so grateful for all the help I have received from the NHS during this time. I know that resources are limited and I am really happy to lend my support to my daughter, Helen, and her friend, Tom, in their endeavour to raise much needed funds. As you see from the website, they are embarking on a very ambitious project to help cancer sufferers. Their specific target is to raise funds for IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy) at the Oncology Unit (Sussex Cancer Centre) at the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton, where I received much of my treatment. If this software had been available when my cancer re-occurred, my life would have been considerably more comfortable over the course of this summer. As it was, after having completed an unsuccessful course of chemotherapy in Brighton, my case was referred to the Royal Marsden in London, where Dr. Kevin Harrington was my consultant and his care was second to none. The routine, which meant me travelling daily to and from Fulham, lasted a number of weeks and was incredibly tough on my body, my mind and my spirit - as well as my family. I hope that the money Helen and Tom may raise will allow Sussex sufferers to have treatment locally. I express my thanks to Dr. Richard Simcock and his team in Brighton for all their help and kindness over the last few years and I hope that you will all GIVE GENEROUSLY and support Helen and Tom in their efforts. One day it may be you..." Chris Jackson |
